Songwriting Contest

Songwriting Contest Header (600 x 315 px)

CPW Rotary has been involved with the Karama Education Center (KEC) in Uganda since 2018, working closely with staff to help identify needs and promote student health & achievement.

Our newest project aligns with the Uganda Ministry of Education’s initiative to support Music, Drama, and Dance (MDD) programs in schools as a co-curricular tool to advance 4 key pillars: cultural preservation, holistic development, advocacy & social change, and creative & mental alertness.

Including the arts in school curriculum has the power to strengthen student engagement by providing invaluable opportunities for students to express themselves, learn new skills, build confidence, connect to their community, and preserve their cultural heritage.

We’re setting out to provide the building blocks of a strong MDD program at KEC. Our goal is to provide financial support for the acquisition of traditional instruments, audio equipment, training & support services, and costumes in Uganda. We’ll also be training a team of youth to travel to KEC to deliver modern instruments purchased in the US and join the KEC students for a joint musical experience.

To kick off this new initiative, we’re hosting a songwriting contest: One World, Many Voices. We’re looking for original songs with lyrics that convey the power of youth to build a better future and create positive change in their communities & our world.
